GINGERBREAD playdough!



Just the thought of this makes me happy.  Memories of playing with play dough and the smell of Christmas all wrapped into one! (seriously - the play dough smells so good and spicy!!)




Mix dry ingredients.  

Next mix water and oil together than add to dry ingredients.  Put in sauce pan cook on medium 2-3 minutes. You can add a few drops of red and green food coloring in this if you want it to be an extra dark brown color.

Stir constantly till dough pulls away from sides.

Take out and knead - sprinkle cinnamon on the table to make it easier and get the right constancy.  

Store in closed container.

        *      Be sure and get your cinnamon cheap - I go to the dollar store.

        *      I split up the piles and added red glitter to one and gold to the other. 

        *     You could skip the cinnamon and replace it with more flour and add peppermint extract to make peppermint play dough! 

        *Put this in a cute christmas bag and you could give a way!

Unfortunately non of the above recipes is edible.  I heard you can do 1c peanut butter, 1 c dry powdered milk and 2-3 tbsp of honey for an edible play dough variation!  Why not throw in some cinnamon to that mixture too!


While I wasn't looking (I sware I put the food coloring far away from her) somehow my daughter managed to find the bottles and while I was typing up this post, proceded to pour it all over her play dough. . As mad as I was the crazy blogger sweet side of me came out and I thought well at least this will add some humor to the post! And BTW, it makes it a very DEEP brown with the additional food coloring!

Make Large Canvas Wall Art Out of An Old Map

One of my favorite things about thrift store decorating is finding something unexpected and giving it a new life. When I came across an old vintage map, I immediately saw the potential for unique wall art. Instead of leaving it tucked away, I cut it into sections and mounted it onto canvases to create a custom piece full of character and history. If you love decorating with vintage finds and creating budget-friendly home decor, this simple DIY project might inspire your next thrift store makeover. I had previously picked up an old slightly laminated MAP from the same thrift store for a few dollars. I began to wonder what I could do with my map???? Pottery Barn Knockoff–Distressed Clock Decor

Ahhhhhh Pottery Barn.  The gorgeous pictures, the GIANT price tags.  If only we could re-create for less everything we see in that magazine.  Well today’s post will give that a try  – Pottery Barn for under $10.00.  Yep, that’s right, this next project cost me around 6 bucks.  When I was at the thrift store I spotted this lonely round board.  It was almost 2 feet around, insanely heavy and covered in laminate but I thought hummmm……this has some CLOCK potential!  So I bought it for a whopping $1.50. Here is the lovely BEFORE picture: And here is the AFTER: Now how I got there.  :-) First I distressed the plastic and wood by sawing the edges, hammering the center, and quickly sanding the entire circle.  I didn’t spend a lot of time doing this because I had another idea to help with the distressing which you’ll see in the next few steps.
