How to Get the Restoration Hardware Living Room Look for Less

1. Stick to a Warm Neutral Color Palette

Restoration Hardware rooms rarely use bright colors. Instead, they layer soft whites, warm taupes, oatmeal, charcoal, and natural wood tones. Keeping your palette simple allows the textures to become the focal point.

2. Think Bigger Than You Normally Would

One of the biggest mistakes people make is choosing furniture that's too small. Oversized sofas, substantial coffee tables, large chandeliers, and tall olive trees instantly make a room feel more custom and luxurious.

5. Decorate with Intention

Make Large Canvas Wall Art Out of An Old Map

One of my favorite things about thrift store decorating is finding something unexpected and giving it a new life. When I came across an old vintage map, I immediately saw the potential for unique wall art. Instead of leaving it tucked away, I cut it into sections and mounted it onto canvases to create a custom piece full of character and history. If you love decorating with vintage finds and creating budget-friendly home decor, this simple DIY project might inspire your next thrift store makeover. Pottery Barn Knockoff–Distressed Clock Decor

Ahhhhhh Pottery Barn.  The gorgeous pictures, the GIANT price tags.  If only we could re-create for less everything we see in that magazine.  Well today’s post will give that a try  – Pottery Barn for under $10.00.  Yep, that’s right, this next project cost me around 6 bucks.  When I was at the thrift store I spotted this lonely round board.  It was almost 2 feet around, insanely heavy and covered in laminate but I thought hummmm……this has some CLOCK potential!  So I bought it for a whopping $1.50. Here is the lovely BEFORE picture: And here is the AFTER: Now how I got there.  :-) First I distressed the plastic and wood by sawing the edges, hammering the center, and quickly sanding the entire circle.  I didn’t spend a lot of time doing this because I had another idea to help with the distressing which you’ll see in the next few steps.
