How to Find Expensive-Looking Furniture for Less Using Google Lens

Image
If you have not used Google Lens to figure out the best price on all of your home furnishing purchases, I have a very detailed post on how to use Goggle Lens .   For those that has discovered Google Lens, congratulations on saving thousands of dollars! Below are my top tips for getting the most out of the technology! Here are my 5 Google Lens Tips for Furniture Shopping 1. The obvious, compare prices at multiple retailers. Don't buy the first one you find. Use Google Lens to compare the same item at least four different retailers. You'd be amazed how much prices can vary. 2. Circle the exact item in your photo. If there are several pieces of furniture in the picture, crop the image so Google Lens focuses only on the item you're trying to find. 3. Read the reviews. The cheapest price isn't always the best deal. Make sure you're buying from a reputable retailer and take a few minutes to read customer reviews. 4. Search inspiration photos. You don't have to photogr...

How to Make Your Bed Look Like a Designer Styled It

Image
Have you ever made your bed, stepped back and thought, why does mine still look nothing like the beautiful beds I see in magazines? I feel you and that's why I'm here to help! The secret usually isn't an expensive bed frame or a mountain of decorative pillows. (although you do need a bed with a headboard!) It's choosing the right pieces and layering them correctly. Here are five things I do when I want a bed to look polished, comfortable and designer-styled. 1. Start With a Really Fluffy Duvet This is one place where quality makes a difference. After lots of researching (always trying to find the best balance of price and quality!!!) I picked this down duvet insert for my OWN king bed.  I've been very happy with it! It adjusts to my temperature and remains very full and fluffy.   A full, fluffy duvet insert gives your bed that luxurious look. If your duvet is flat, the entire bed will look flat—no matter how many pillows you add. Look for an insert with...

5 Incredibly Simple & Inexpensive Ways to Update Your Home

Image
Sometimes your home doesn’t need a complete makeover. As an interior designer, I’ve found that a few simple changes can make a room feel dramatically fresher, lighter, and more current—without spending a fortune. Here are five of my favorite ways that I have recently applied to my own home that I want to share with you all. We did end up doing new flooring, but even if we had just hit these top five examples, it would have made a big difference. 1. Change Your Old Hardware One of the easiest updates you can make is replacing outdated cabinet and furniture hardware. New pulls or knobs can completely change the personality of a piece without replacing the piece itself. For example, swapping traditional or dated hardware for simple, streamlined more modern elongated handles can instantly make a cabinet feel more modern. It’s a small change, but one you’ll notice every time you walk into the room.  I did the upgrade myself. Just buy a drill template off Amazon and you are good to ...

The Biggest Decorating Mistakes That Make Your Home Look Cheap

Image
Have you ever walked into a room and felt like something was off, even though it had beautiful furniture? As an interior designer, I see the same decorating mistake over and over. Surprisingly, it has nothing to do with your budget. The biggest mistake is decorating one piece at a time instead of designing the room as a whole. When every item is purchased separately without a plan ( or an inspirational mood board !) a room can feel disconnected. The good news? It's one of the easiest problems to fix. The links are my affiliate links and I may make a small commission but at no extra cost to you :-)  Start with an Anchor Piece Every beautiful room begins with one feature that sets the tone—usually a rug, sofa, an art piece you LOVE or a statement light fixture.  I did fall in love with the sofa first, but the art piece was what gave me inspiration for the entire room.  I do practice what I preach!  This is my OWN home living room mood board .  Designer Picks:...
